NAP Contactmeeting February 5th 2026

The upcoming NAP contact meeting will once again take place at a beautiful and highly suitable location: the former Mining building in Delft, a monumental structure dating back to 1912. This former TU Delft building has been fully renovated by Haskoning into a Paris Proof national monument. It is a place where technology, innovation, history and the energy transition come together.

The shift to renewable energy sources requires significant adjustments to our electricity infrastructure and this transition also leads to grid congestion, which directly impacts daily operations within the industry. (Source: Report Wennink, 2025)

During the meeting, we will explore the challenges of grid congestion in industry and whether sustainable workarounds are possible through innovative and challenging projects.

This NAP contact meeting is an excellent opportunity to gain practical insights and connect with fellow leaders who are shaping the future of the Dutch industrial landscape.

Date: Thursday, 5 February 2026 | 17:00 – 21:30
Location: Haskoning, Delft
Programme: Networking drinks, presentations, and dinner
Language: English

Two speakers will share their practical experience and insights.

Can batteries solve grid congestion?
Grid congestion is an increasing problem for both companies and households. Should we wait for grid operators to resolve it, or can and should companies take action themselves?

Paul Hoorens, Business Solutions Manager High Voltage at Croonwolter&dros, will address two core challenges of the current energy system: transporting energy and having energy available at the right moment. To what extent can batteries help solve these issues? Are they a structural solution or merely a temporary, local measure? What are the implications for grid stability, energy trading, and safety, especially when dealing with an energy source that cannot simply be switched off?

Grid congestion in industry: is a sustainable workaround possible?
Edward Pfeiffer, Leading Professional Smart Energy Hubs at Haskoning, will discuss how industrial decarbonisation, transformation, and growth often lead to rising electricity demand. With grid congestion becoming increasingly structural, industries risk stagnation: capacity is limited, transitions are delayed, and investment conditions deteriorate.

While grid operators do what they can, companies are often left to find their own solutions. But what if waiting is not an option? What is plan B?

Using real-world examples from grid congestion mitigation projects, Edward will show what is possible. He will explore how companies can gain more control over their energy supply by smartly combining energy system components and by collaborating flexibly with grid operators and neighbouring companies. He will also share innovative, out-of-the-box measures from research conducted for Netbeheer Nederland and Cluster 6 companies.

This meeting offers valuable insights, expert perspectives, and plenty of opportunity to exchange experiences with peers from the process industry in an informal setting. Feel free to forward this invitation to colleagues for whom this topic is relevant.
