Competition: Smart Collaboration & Innovation in a Changing Process Industry

To celebrate the 65th NAP anniversary and to look ahead at the future of the Dutch process industry, we invite companies, knowledge institutions, students and professionals to participate in a unique innovation competition. Share your ideas and collaboration concepts that help build a future‑proof sector.

The Competition
The Dutch process industry is facing significant challenges:
grid congestion, strict environmental regulations, shifting customer demands, and an urgent need for sustainability. At the same time, technological advancements, geopolitical dynamics and societal expectations are reshaping the playing field.

We are looking for concrete, forward‑looking solutions. Your concept, product, service or collaboration model should ideally:

  • Strengthen value‑chain cooperation in the process industry
  • Contribute to sustainability, digitalisation or efficiency
  • Promote knowledge sharing between industry, education and technology
  • Enable smart, cross‑organisational collaboration (e.g. co‑creation, shared infrastructure, joint data analysis)
  • Address current bottlenecks such as grid congestion and regulatory pressure
  • Inspire the sector and spark new thinking

Who can participate?
Everyone with a passion for the process industry:

  • Companies (petrochemicals, chemicals, food, energy, etc.)
  • Engineering firms, installation companies, equipment manufacturers
  • Educational institutions and students
  • Service providers and knowledge institutes
  • Professionals within the NAP network

Themes for Inspiration
Participants may explore (but are not limited to):

  • Circular solutions for industrial residual streams
  • Digital platforms for value‑chain collaboration
  • Training models that connect theory and practice
  • Smart sensor technologies for process optimisation
  • Energy‑efficient installations and infrastructure
  • Cross‑sector collaboration between SMEs, knowledge partners and/or governments

How It Works

The competition consists of three phases:

  1. Initial Submission — by 15 May 2026
Submit a half‑page description of your solution.
  2. Feedback Round — June 2026
You will receive feedback and can further develop your idea.
  3. Poster Submission — by 1 October 2026
Submit your concept in the form of a digital A1 poster.
